Celebrity New Year's Resolutions to Steal for Each Enneagram Type

As we step into the New Year, it’s that time when many of us start thinking about resolutions—those big goals we set for ourselves in hopes of making a fresh start. If you’re feeling a bit lost on what resolution to set for 2025, why not take a cue from a celebrity who shares your Enneagram type? These famous individuals have achieved success in their own lives and may just have the perfect resolution for you!

Type 1 - Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman, an Enneagram Type One, has a refreshing twist to New Year’s resolutions. She thinks that it's better to set a resolution for each area of your life rather than to fixate on a single goal. In her own words, she shared, “I think everyone needs to do what's right for them. And every woman knows the pressures on appearance, but something that one of my friends did that I sort of copied, which I liked, was to make categories of resolutions... What do I want to do for my friends? What do I want to do for my family? What do I want to do for my community? What do I want to do for myself?”

For Type Ones,  spreading out your resolutions across different areas of your life can be a real game-changer. When you’re aiming for perfection, it’s easy to get hyper-focused on one goal—sometimes at the expense of other things that matter. So, diversifying your resolutions can help keep things more balanced and stop you from burning out on just one focus.

Type 2 - Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba embodies the nurturing spirit of a Type Two. In 2008, she candidly expressed her New Year’s resolution: “Probably not to be so judgmental of myself... that's the first thing that comes to mind.”

For Twos, this sentiment is a much-needed reminder to balance empathy and drive to care for others with a bit of self-compassion. You always give your all to help those around you, so you totally deserve a little love back! Another thing is that it can be hard to be really there for others when you’re being tough on yourself. As an old adage goes, you can't pour from an empty cup!

Type 3 - Meghan Markle

Back in 2018, Type Three Meghan Markle shared her New Year’s resolution to "...leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change."

Threes can really benefit from this mindset. You’re naturally wired to achieve, but being open to a little flexibility can help you enjoy the process as much as the outcome. In Markle's words, when you "leave room for magic," you can still aim high, but you're more open to adapt and enjoy the journey.

Type 4 - Rihanna

Rihanna embodies the creative and idealistic nature of a Type Four, and her resolutions reflect this. Back in 2021, she shared her New Year's resolution—"to take my music and my brands to a different level."

For you fellow Fours, Rihanna's striving for excellence in her work can serve as a nudge to stop second-guessing yourself and follow what truly inspires you. Maybe it’s finally starting that passion project or trying something unconventional—whatever makes you feel most alive. Like Rihanna, a little boldness can be all it takes to make this year creatively unforgettable!

Type 5 - Cillian Murphy

Cillian’s all about keeping a low profile and taking on those deep, intense roles that fit his personality perfectly—he’s a classic Enneagram Type 5. When asked about his New Year’s resolution for 2024, he kept it real: “Staying happy and healthy, like everyone else, I suppose,” and then added, “They never really last, do they?”

Murphy’s laid-back approach to New Year’s resolutions is something Fives could really benefit from. Instead of going after some overly specific or detailed goal, focusing on your general well-being can help you sidestep the usual trap of “analysis paralysis.” As a Five, it’s easy to get lost in the planning phase, so keeping it simple might just be the key to moving forward without overthinking.

Type 6 - Prince Harry

Like most Sixes, Prince Harry looks for stability and security in his life and relationships. In the run-up to 2024, he expressed his intention to start the new year right by making amends with his family—his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William.

For fellow Sixes, Harry’s resolution offers a valuable takeaway—that trying to patch things up is well worth it. You often worry about worst-case scenarios and may hold onto past tensions, but going out of your way to mend relationships can bring that sense of security and stability that you value so much.

Type 7 - Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is a free and adventurous spirit—a classic Type Seven. In 2023, she said that her New Year's resolution was to "listen to others," a goal inspired by the wise words of her godmother, Dolly Parton. Cyrus admitted that her “instinct is very loud,” so in the coming year, she’s all about making space to hear what people are saying.

This intention can be especially meaningful for Sevens. You seek excitement and have a tendency to jump from one thing to the next, so, truly listening to others can be a real challenge—especially when conversations turn serious, mundane or emotionally heavy.

Type 8 - Serena Williams

Serena Williams, a Type Eight, has a refreshing take on New Year’s resolutions—she doesn’t really believe in them! She’s figured out that those big resolutions never really work out anyway. As she put it, “After how long I’ve been around, [I’ve realized] it never really happens” and “I always say it’s about the lifestyle, not a moment.”

For Eights, adopting this mindset can be a real game-changer. Rather than going all in after some lofty goal and then crashing from burnout—as you often do—focus on making sustainable lifestyle changes. That way, you can break free from that frustrating pattern of going all out and then feeling like you’ve hit a wall.

Type 9 - Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande displays the hallmark traits of a Type Nine—she’s calm, gentle and peace-loving. Back in 2012, she shared her New Year's resolution to "make more time for my friends and my family, and to stay more in touch." Which is a nice reminder that even the most easygoing of us can fall into some bad habits, like getting carried away with our schedules.

Nines can really benefit from taking a page from Ariana's book, especially when it comes to staying more in touch with their significant others. Although you seek connection, you also tend to struggle with procrastination and inertia—the Type Nine “bed rot.” You might intend to reconnect with friends you lost touch with but put it off because you avoid any kind of tension or awkwardness. Ariana's resolution is a reminder to make that extra effort and reach out to those you care about, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
