We’ll Predict Your Favorite Holiday, Based On Your Enneagram Type

Thanksgiving is just around the corner—but it isn't the only holiday that inspires people to go all out! From the gift-giver who gives Santa a run for his money to the cupids who can't get enough candy hearts, there's a holiday for every personality type. But have you ever wondered which one speaks to your soul the most? Look no further than your Enneagram type.

Type One: New Year’s Day

If anybody enjoys bettering themselves, it is self-help-book-reading, TED-talk-watching Type Ones. No wonder, then, that Ones just love New Year’s Day. The first day of the year washes away the letdowns of the previous one, and the clean slate ahead is just begging for a new set of habits.

New Years’ resolutions are a Type One's jam because it's a chance to make good on failed promises to themselves and others. If this is you, put the phone in the drawer on New Year's and reflect on all the opportunities to be better in the year ahead. It's like giving yourself a pep talk, which is just the kind of thing a Type One can get behind.

Type Two: Valentine’s Day

Type Twos are radically relationship-centered. They enjoy expressing their love for others, platonically or romantically, in most every way possible, whether it's through kind words, thoughtful gifts or going the extra mile to help others feel appreciated.  They just wish the people around them would take initiative and show them more love—and Valentine’s Day is the perfect reminder.

Twos will take Valentine’s Day very seriously. In a relationship? They’ll plan an elaborate surprise date for their significant other. Single? They'll plan a Galentine's Day brunch to celebrate their platonic friendships. Either way, Valentine’s Day is a perfect excuse to spend time making others feel loved, and hope to get some love back in return.

Type Three: Independence Day

The Fourth of July is one of the most malleable holidays. While its purpose remains the same, how you celebrate it is up to you. Do you want to spend the day by the lake with friends? Watch fireworks  with your family? Host a cookout and show off your grilling skills?

Type Threes are expert thinkers, planners ... and image-keepers. As the type that strives to be the best at everything, Independence Day offers endless opportunities for Threes to create a picture-perfect and impressive day, from the festivities, to the location, to the guest list, to the aesthetic on Instagram that just screams "success."

Type Four: Equinoxes/Solstices

While not holidays in the traditional sense, the four Equinoxes and Solstices—two of each per year—are special days for Type Fours. They represent balance, change and transition. These themes  resonate with Fours who tend to be reflective and sentimentally attuned to the world around them.

Fours are also known for being highly individualistic, and these transitional days can be seen as a time to celebrate their uniqueness and personal growth. Envisioning the literal seasons as personal seasons, the Four may see these days as a time to clear out the clutter, start fresh and embrace new beginnings.

Type Five: St. Patrick’s Day

Everyone talks about how intelligent and rational Fives are but rarely do they mention that they also have a playful, quirky side. While they find as much joy in the big holidays as other types, they're also attracted to the lesser-known ones that can be celebrated in a more unconventional way.

Enter St. Patrick's Day. Type Fives have a keen sense of humor and irony and this holiday is full of both—green beer, leprechaun jokes, and shamrock accessories are the norm! They will show up wearing a “Kiss me, I’m Irish” t-shirt, despite being neither Irish nor seeking a kiss.

Type Six: Christmas

Christmas is the ultimate holiday for Type Sixes who value warmth, family and tradition. The nostalgia and traditions associated with Christmas bring comfort and stability in a world that can often feel uncertain. Sixes find comfort in things staying the same.

Sixes also enjoy the communal aspect of Christmas. They will most likely be found baking cookies with the younger family members or playing board games with siblings on Christmas Day. Family dinners, holiday carols—these traditions all provide a sense of safety for Sixes. It is a yearly reminder of what’s important: faith, family and tradition. These are classic Six values.

Type Seven: Mardi Gras

Fun-loving, adventurous Type Sevens would much rather be on the go than stuck at home waiting for the next family holiday. So if there's a party happening somewhere, you know the Sevens will be there. And what better party than Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras is all about indulgence and excess—two things that Sevens will rarely pass up. They'll be decked out in beads and masks, dancing in the streets, and trying every local delicacy they can find. Good vibes guaranteed.

Type Eight: Their Birthday

I don’t care what anybody says, your birthday is a holiday. Type Eights should treat it like one. Your birthday marks the day you entered the world—it's the only celebration day when it is socially acceptable to call all the shots and tell others exactly how to celebrate you!

Eights love being in control, so their birthday is the perfect day for them to do exactly what they want. Even Eights who claim that they “don’t like to make their birthday a big deal” want autonomy over how they celebrate. Also, Eights like to be shown love and appreciation, but will never ask for it. Their birthdays are the one day a year when people give it freely.

Type Nine: Thanksgiving

Type Nines are harmonious, loyal and rock-solid. More than any other type, they will push for everybody in the family to come together for the holidays—even the relatives who they don’t particularly like.

This is why Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year for Nines. Aside from the potentially tense family dinners, this is a peaceful and positive holiday. Thanksgiving presents less stress than Christmas, which requires you to buy presents, or Valentine’s Day, which requires the large (and often public) displays of love that Nines often shy away from. Nines also appreciate positivity. Going around the table to share what everyone is grateful for? It doesn’t get much better than that for a Nine.
