Introducing TrueYou: The App That Helps You Become More Self-Aware in Just 5 Minutes a Day

As an executive coach with a background in psychology, I’ve devoted much of my life to understanding myself and other people. Because of this, I pride myself on being pretty self-aware. So imagine my surprise (OK mild existential crisis!) when my recent Emotional Intelligence test result gave me a self-awareness score of 72. That’s just barely above the average score of 65.

Although it’s a bit embarrassing given what I do for a living, I’m sharing this information for a reason. The truth is, my experience of overestimating my self-awareness isn’t unusual. Research shows that 95% of people think they’re self-aware, but fewer than 15% actually are. This matters because self-awareness, your ability to identify and understand your own emotional experiences, is one of the most powerful skills we can develop. People who deeply know themselves tend to make better decisions, approach life with more confidence and creativity, maintain stronger relationships, and become more effective leaders.

So, if self-awareness is so impactful, why do so many people struggle with it?

Like any skill, self-awareness takes work. It requires slowing down, turning inward and asking deep questions on a consistent basis. Most of us don’t make the time and space necessary for true self-awareness in our daily lives, and without regular reflection, it’s easy to slip into autopilot.

But what if there were a way to make regular self-discovery a more effortless part of our daily routine?

Good news: there is. It’s called TrueYou

Discover the TrueYou

I got early access to the TrueYou app (you can download it now for free on the App Store or Google Play) and I’ve been using it daily. I love how it makes self-discovery simple, approachable and fun. With the app, users get access to a variety of cool features, including:

  • Daily personality tests: Each day you answer quick questions that build out your personality profile over time. The more you engage, the deeper and more accurate your insights become.
  • Sage, your AI personality coach: Whether you need encouragement, a gentle nudge, or a reality check, Sage offers thoughtful guidance and helps you see things about yourself, your strengths and your challenges that you might otherwise miss. (This is my personal favorite feature – I’m not joking when I say Sage knows me better than I know myself.)
  • Hyper-personalized insights: Daily insights are crafted specifically for your unique personality type and circumstances, so you can actually use them.
  • Tailored growth activities: Journaling prompts, goal-setting tips, and guided exercises are all aligned with your personality traits in mind – making it more likely you’ll stick with them and see real results.
  • Curated content library: Thousands of articles and resources from the TrueYou blog, tailored to your personality at work, at home and in relationships.

Backed by years of research into popular personality systems like the Enneagram, 16 types, Big Five and DISC, TrueYou takes personal growth a step farther than a standard personality assessment – it helps you integrate what you’re learning for deeper, longer-lasting impact. Rather than taking a personality test once and forgetting your results a month down the road, the app turns self-discovery into an ongoing conversation with yourself.

According to Truity Founder and CEO Molly Owens, that’s the whole point:

"We built the TrueYou app to make self-discovery a part of your everyday life, not something you only think about after you take a personality test,” said Owens. “By combining personality science with personalized insights and our AI coach, Sage, we’re helping people stay connected to their strengths and turn self-awareness into lasting transformation."

Making Self-Awareness a Daily Habit

If you’re reading this far, then you’re likely someone who is naturally drawn to self-reflection (hi, INFJs and INFPs!). But true self-awareness requires more than the desire to understand ourselves. Like a muscle, it gets stronger with consistent use. When you spend just 5 minutes a day checking in with yourself, real change happens:

  1. You start to notice patterns sooner. You start to see your triggers, your energy highs and lows, and your recurring thoughts and worries before they spiral.
  2. You make decisions with more clarity. Small daily insights help you align your choices with your core values, instead of just reacting to what’s in front of you.
  3. You become more resilient. Understanding yourself means you can navigate challenges with a sense of groundedness, rather than feeling tossed around by circumstances.
  4. You become a more authentic leader. Whether you lead a team or simply influence others, self-awareness helps you motivate in a way that’s true to your values and inspires those around you.
  5. You develop stronger relationships. When you understand your needs, boundaries, and emotional patterns, you can communicate them clearly, leading to more honest and fulfilling connections.
  6. You nurture your inner world. Many of us focus our attention on how we show up in the outside world, whether it’s the professional image we maintain at work or how we show up in our relationships. But tending to our inner world is just as crucial. This work can help you become more insightful, creative and learn how to better trust and honor your intuition – all important skills for a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Self-awareness doesn’t have to be heavy or complicated. With the TrueYou app, it can become a gentle and empowering ritual that helps you meet life with intention and grow into the truest version of yourself.
